Furthermore, a revision of the Honor Code will not only limit cheating and plagiarizing, but it will ultimately prepare students for their future, with the understanding that breaking rules will end in a negative consequence. Students will evidently grow out of this habit and regain morals that will improve their honesty. The students at RVHS should be aware and constantly reminded that cheating and violating school rules will lead them to be rebellious, and dishonest people in the future who don’t value genuine qualities. With college as the next step of education students must learn that acts in violation of the code will not be tolerated and can end with the student being suspended or expelled (Source C). Honor codes/honor systems serve as a reminder to students to (especially) not cheat/plagarize. However, just how effective they are is up for debate. In my opinion, honor codes should be eliminated. Based on the documents given, they are excessive, ineffective, and sometimes extreme, I have concluded. To begin with, I see honor codes as excessive; it is a known rule not to cheat.…

Secondly, this point can be proven through the evidence that “students at colleges with honor codes-typically student-enforced- cheat less than their counterparts elsewhere do” (Source C). This adds physical statistics that schools who enforce honor codes, are more likely to possess more honesty within its students. Therefor, my school should enforce honor codes to better add good morals to the students who attend the school. To further add, honor codes should be enforced by a student body. This will help the students who don’t cheat feel more in control of their own success.…

The only way a honor code will be successful is if the students uphold to it and enforce it themselves. Source C focuses on a peer’s influence on fulfilling this responsibility or not. Cheating solely falls on the student’s shoulders. Those who do choose to cheat choose to do so because they know that they will not be caught or no one will turn them in. Peer-enforced honor codes state “ the likelihood of being caught depends on other students’ tolerance for cheating (Source C.)”…

A student run survey found that 48% of students believe the honor code is enforced fairly and 88% of students believe that the repercussions are reasonable when there’s a violation of the honor code (Source E). The honor system is obviously favored by the students, but why? Probably because the high levels of dishonesty can’t be turned in by the tiny 8% capable of doing so. The honor code simply doesn’t work. In a cartoon made by Aaron Bacall, there is a presenter with a sign that reads, ‘Using honor codes to prevent cheating,’ and the presenter saying, “Recent research has shown that a spycam can greatly improve the honore code” (Source A).…

enforced- have fewer reports of plagiarism. Having an honor code would create a trustworthy environment with fewer problems between the student body. Therefore, schools should establish an honor code because it would prevent cheating, push students to be honest, and it would set higher standards. Typically, in schools with strictly enforced honor codes students who are convicted of lying or cheating can expect to receive punishments ranging from suspension to expulsion. It is simply "tempting" for students to cheat because it requires less effort and responsibility.…

For numerous academic institutions, honor codes are the foundations that strive to mitigate surreptitious, unfair actions. From cheating to plagiarizing, these sets of code execute a block of repercussions that insists on fostering integrity. Nevertheless, the effectiveness of honor systems is a highly controversial issue; proponents proclaim that these rules do cultivate truthfulness, while opponents highlight the ineffective, authoritarian consequences of these honor codes. Honor codes may appear consequential in preventing immoral actions, but these protocols constitute vastly more ramifications than benefits. Thus, my school should abolish its honor system.…

To begin, student culture regarding the honor codes at their schools is essential because it determines whether or not the rules would be taken seriously. There may be an honor code that is strictly enforced, but if students have no part of the process and are only punished,…
