In this specific soliloquy, Shakespeare utilizes the word “honesty” to help portray the type of man Iago isn't and the type of man Othello believes he is not. By letting himself be influenced by Iago's lies, Othello shows how being too trusting and putting your trust into someone you deem to be “of exceeding honesty” (3.3.263) can lead to you to your ruin. Because Othello is of trusting nature and he believes Iago to be an honest man it was easy for Iago to execute his plan and manipulate othello to create his own destruction. The etymology of the word “honesty” defines someone as being of "honorable position; propriety of behavior, good manners; virginity, chastity. "…

Moreover, there is not a single line that exists in the play which reveals Iago exposing his reality to another person. Although everyone figures out about Iago’s two-sidedness towards the end of the play, he still does not have the strength to reveal his true character or interpret why he has done such evil deeds. When Othello demands Iago for a reasoning behind his actions, Iago replies saying, “Demand me nothing; what you know, you know. / From this time forth I never will speak word” (Act V.ii.300-301). This quote proves that Iago’s insecurity of identity disallows him to speak up and give a reasonable response to Othello about his wrong doings.…

Othello Othello’s race plays a major role throughout this play. Othello's race is a dividing element, which causes him to be seen as an outsider. His race, an element of difference, plays a distinctive role in his downfall. For Example, Iago seizes on the fact that Othello is so self conscious about his race, and convinces Othello that Desdemona may come back to reality liking her own “clime, complexion, and degree of men(3.3.230).…
