Honduras is a small country located in Central America and the Caribbean but the second- largest country in Central America. It has a population of five million people. Honduras has many pretty beaches, beautiful national parks and monuments, and jungles. Honduras is a democratic constitutional republic. The ethnicity of Honduras is made up of ninety percent Mestizo, seven percent Amerindian, two percent is Black African, and Whites make up the last one percent. Ninety seven percent of residents are Roman Catholics and the other three percent are Protestants. The official language of Honduras is Spanish. Some other foods they eat are beans, cassava, a root-looking plant that is very high in carbohydrates. Some specialties are Plato típico, a dish with steak, plantain chips, pickled cabbage, beans, sour cream and tortillas. Another dish is tamales, a fresh corn cake that sometimes includes cheese, chilies or raisins. Some popular drinks are licuados, a milkshake that includes fruits such as mangoes and bananas. In the 1980’s, when the civilians ruled the country again, the military still was a powerful political force. When the civilians ruled, the executive branch usually overpowered the legislative and judicial branches. The judicial branch has been condemned of politicization and having unqualified judges for lower courts. Their justice system has no t held accountable for not holding military or civilian elites. The political system suffers from the endemic corruption occurring in its ranks. This happens a lot because South American countries get paid badly and people will bribe them with money and they usually will take the bribe. All through the 1900’s, different types of groups have affected the way the government or politics work. In the 90’s, Honduras was having civil conflict in the region and then they and the central American countries started on regional integration. Regional integration is when neighbor countries try to boost their cooperation through similar rules and institutions. The banking in Honduras is actually good and so is their health care. Today, the Honduras president, Juan Orlando Hernández, is both head of the government and the head of the state is elected by
