Many societies have believed that homosexuality was a “choice”, however it is not a simple sexual preference or a lifestyle. It is often uncomfortable to identify oneself as a homosexual and to live in a largely heterosexual dominated society. The controversial topic of homosexual based on nurture or nature is confusing and a sensitive subject, this research paper is to educate the reader and myself, about the biological and environmental perspective of homosexuality.
There are many different theories about why some people have affections toward same sex and whether or not homosexuality is innate or is a result of nurture. However, not one theory or experiment leads to one definite answer, so the debate continues. According to Ramon Johnson in his Nature vs Nurture article, “the nature concept explores the possibility of a specific gene or combination of genes present at the time of birth that genetically predispose people to homosexuality”. I have been disagreeing with people who said it is a “choice” to be homosexual. In my opinion, all nature and nurture factors can lead someone to be homosexual. There is no definite answer to why someone is who he or she is, but I think everyone has some kind of homosexual desires in them. However, the environment around him or her can impact whether or not someone becomes homosexual. The definition and perception of homosexuality is a constant problem with classification and contributes to above confusion to the eventual determinants of homosexuality. Unfortunately, heterosexual dominant society divides and class homosexuals as a minority and represses them of individual rights, behavior, and lifetime partner choice. If a society as a whole can try to better understand and change the attitudes towards the homosexual minority, then homosexual society can have a comfortable life, with no pressure to fit into social norms and
