For purposes of this paper, I chose to focus on the topic of homelessness for a number of reasons. One of the reasons why I chose to focus on the topic of Homelessness is because of my own personal views toward being homeless. I feel as though that having food, shelter and clothing is not only a necessity for all human beings, but also it should be a right in the country that we live in. We as Americans always talk about justice and are always fighting toward “Human rights,” but what good are these conversations if there are still people suffering on the street mercilessly without basic human needs. Human rights have to do with things which we are entitled to as human beings regardless of our status of race, religion, ethnicity, gender etc., …show more content…
Homeless U.S. Veterans have always struck me as being something that is unfair and downright wrong. Just the simple fact that a person who was willing to sacrifice his or her own life to fight for an entire country of people, comes back and is stranded out on the street without proper treatment and compensation is just heartbreaking and the very thought of it is frustrating. Finally, I chose to focus on the topic of homelessness because of my personal encounters with them in my everyday life. Ever since I was a little girl I always had a soft spot for homeless people and have always wanted to give to them, sometimes I would be walking down the street with my mom and I would see a homeless person and want to give them something, but she would tell me no. I never really knew why, but as I got older the people around me helped me to better understand my mother’s actions. I would hear people speak of their personal experiences with homeless people and how “conniving” they could be. For instance how some of them were not really homeless and they were just acting, or how they would use the money for drugs and/or alcohol and not

Henderson’s newspaper article on homelessness in New York City begins with an abstract that is pithy and informative. Continuing from the abstract are paragraphs of descriptive information with the intended purpose of reporting the news. Informative language is ever-present in this text; the information is precise with factual information and quotations from the Department of Homeless Services. The language features of this article are mainly objective as the author is more interested in showing the events that are occurring rather than putting her own personal feelings toward this issue. Although, some of the language she uses is quite weighty and could provoke a feeling of anger in the reader.…

The government and police need to encourage the homeless population into searching for other states where the economy is better. Allowing the homeless to stay in this state in the current situation, it will cause violence, and it will cause health hazards not only to themselves, but also to the environment, and other beings. With the decreased economy, the homeless population would turn to violence in order to provide for their family.…

After doing the research for my paper, it has changed the way I look at homeless people. This makes me feel as if I understand how difficult it can be for homeless people and the pain and suffering they go through each day. At the beginning of my re-search paper, I assumed that it was going to be very interesting to learn about how the government works and how we seem to put no effort into helping out the homeless people. I knew it was going to help me discover new ways to perform research down the road. Throughout my paper, I realized that my hypothesis was not correct.…

This brought me down even further by showing that the homeless populations are the ones that help other transients out the most. The people with the least amount of assets give the most. To be able to stop and look at the world from a man with nothing’s point of view is a rare reality into what it really feels like. The feeling of nothing and no one stand atop of the worst feelings for someone to have. No one should ever be put in that position, now as a result I look at the transient population differently and try to start conversation with them just to show them that I care.…

I always lived near the downtown Long Beach- were majority of the city’s homeless population inhabited. Anywhere I went, I would see someone standing asking for money, or performing in hopes of getting some extra change. Some of the adults I saw were parents or grandparents of classmates from my school. After seeing that I was unsure on if I wanted to continue a relationship with my classmates or pretend like they did not exist because of their situation. Around third grade, in my after-school YMCA program, we had Goodwill go and give us a lecture on what they do.…

Extremely unsatisfied with this answer, I decided that I had to contribute to the spreading of awareness for homelessness. So, after talking with the main sponsor of National Honor Society at my school, we decided to organize an event for supporting the cause. The event came to be a Friday night on the coldest week of January, in which all members of NHS came out with cardboard boxes and sleeping bags, to experience what one night of being homeless truly felt…
