I wanted to help. So as I am given the opportunity to make a change in the community, the homeless is where I want to make it. There are multiple reasons why I feel the need to help the homeless. The main reason is simply that they’re human. Some people think that the homeless are people who are too lazy to work and are where they are due to their own wrong doings. Regardless of whether this is true or not, people make mistakes, and we should help let them right their wrongs. Secondly, there is a large portion of the homeless that didn’t have a choice to be where they are. Many homeless individuals have mental illnesses and are not able to get the support or help that is needed. Whether they were born into dysfunctional families or lost their jobs, it’s hard to get another job, especially with the reputation the homeless have.(some of criminal histories) This project is important to me because I have always had a strong feeling for the homeless. Especially whenever I try to put myself in their shoes. If I were homeless, I would like someone to help me out. I truly believe I can make a difference in their lives by being a motivator and present myself as someone who cares. From then I would need to meet with the coordinator to get a better understanding of what Hope’s door needs and possibly meet some of the people in the homeless shelter. As this shelter is for domestic violence survivors, homemade gifts will provide a feeling of warmth, which they were missing. From the information gathered from meetings at the shelter, I could begin making pillowcases. To do this i would need to buy fabric, which could easily be received at Joann 's fabric store.
