More specifically, Donovan’s childhood is very difficult compared to most kid’s childhoods. “He lived in a New Mexico homeless shelter after his single mother lost her job and their apartment” (Guerra). At only thirteen years old, Donovan is apprehensive about food, shelter, and where is he going to live. Most children would rely on their parents to worry about such topics. Donovan did not let his rough childhood keep him from pursuing his dreams and going the extra mile. For example, Donovan’s soap making business is not as easy at it may seem. Donovan’s mother tells a reporter, “He was up at four a.m. on a Sunday, packing his wagon with all of his soaps” (Guerra). The job Donovan was doing committed him to making and selling soaps if he wanted to be successful and escape poverty someday. Due to his hard work and commitment, Donovan became a business owner at only thirteen years old.
