Preface-I didn’t really try to have any structure in this, it is very all over the place. But you told us to do something about what we are interested in tangentially related to the holocaust, It is just unfortunate that what interest me is writing about whatever I want over a 3 hour period in the middle of the night. You won’t learn much, but when you give people this much freedom they will either disappoint you or surprise you and I would rather be surprising. Keep an open mind.
Okay this was going to be a presentation on Neo-Nazis but most of my ideas hinged on an Email I sent to the too many Neo Nazi groups I found, pretending to be someone interested in their cause but had a few questions before fighting the good fight. Small problem,

Neo Nazis should never be boring so I couldn’t do that. So I started thinking of how people first come to know about the Holocaust. One would think it’s in history class or in a museum or something strictly educational, but one would be wrong it’s through stories. Anne Frank, Book Thief, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, Night I could literally go on and on. There is at least one new holocaust movie a year, this year it’s the zookeeper's wife, next year maybe a Night adaptation. The history channel seems to have an unhealthy obsession with Hitler, seriously their mini-documentaries might as well be titled what did hitler think about drugs, or pets, or ties and people watch it. So I wondered why are people so interested in the Holocaust. I thought maybe because people like puzzles and the Holocaust on a base level makes very little sense, so people ask how did that happen, how did he rise to power, why didn’t america do anything, why didn’t they run, why didn’t they lie, why didn’t they die. So people have all these good questions but no matter how much people try to force it life is not a story, so they can’t find the answers to these questions in history books and if they can the answers are not rewarding enough or too boring. So people look to stories to make sense of the unsensible. For example the …show more content…
I’m a narcissist, what interests me are my opinions. This is probably the most fun I’ve had with a school project which isn’t saying too much but still it was great. I don’t expect the best grade coming from this but I did exactly what I wanted to do so I’m happy with whatever. I am very curious to see what others do with their freedom. I expect most will do a boring google slides about some boring thing they pretend to be interested in. I trust some do something cool with it. Some will surprise most will disappoint. No matter the outcome I hope you do this again people will do a lot better next

The Holocaust, which was the systematic persecution and murder of over six million Jews during World War II, is often cited as one of the worst atrocities committed in the history of human civilization. People speak of it in hushed, mournful voices as they wonder at how the German Nazis could be so malevolent as to annihilate a whole generation of Jews. Hundreds of eminent scholars have eloquently explained the horrific nature of the Holocaust and its effects on the modern world (Gerstenfeld). Yet, it can be said that emphasis should be placed on understanding why Adolf Hitler decided to exterminate so many Jews. Only by looking through the perspective of the Nazis can one begin to understand that the Nazi Party and its leader, Hitler, brutally…

The Holocaust began in January 1933 when Hitler came to power and technically ended on May 8, 1945. The book Night is an emotional book about the holocaust, The holocaust effects affected a lot of people during that time. n this book they physically hurt them, they also hurt their emotions and they hurt spiritually . Some people do not even have an interest in the holocaust, and then there is people like me who love it and want to know every detail we can just because it is so horrible, that it is interesting. That is the reason I read so many Holocaust books, especially ones like”Prisoner B-3087” that is from the point of view of an actual jewish man being tossed around between concentration camps like an animal. “Prisoner B-3087” is considered a novel because certain parts were changes to protect multiple people. It was based on the true story of Jack Gruener, and boy who was just turned 13 when then the Natzis pulled him out of work to go to a nearby concentration camp. It is also true that he survived the Krakow Ghetto and 9 concentration camps during…

Holocaust Research Paper The survivors of the Holocaust have painted a sympathetic, yet mournful picture in the minds of those who are eager to listen to their stories. The many horrors of the Holocaust have rendered those survivors with forlorn memories that will last a lifetime—but to what extent did the Nazis really go to inflict such terrors? Eliezer Wiesel wrote a powerful memoir called Night that recalled his very own experience throughout World War II with stirring details and emotive plots surrounding the Nazis. He wrote it with his heart and wistful mind and told his story through the deceased, who would’ve spoken of the same terrors if they hadn’t passed away.…

As anyone like myself who has heard of the Holocaust era, we can only imagine what a devastating and tragic time that must’ve been for the Jewish people. Imagine being torn away from your families and your basic necessities, and then thrown into captivity for no plausible reason. Then tortured like you were some kind of criminal who deserved to be mistreated and dehumanized. As I hear more about this horrific event that took place and listen to stories from some of the victims, I can’t help but question how and why something this despicable went unnoticed for so long in the first place. How were the Germans allowed to get away with this kind of abuse without anyone interfering and preventing this from happening?…

Depicting a time in history that no one wants to remember is a very difficult task. It is, however, necessary to properly depict the Holocaust in order to ensure people will remember the horrors that occurred. One of the biggest difficulties faced is attempting to represent the holocaust without romanticizing it. While this is not an issue with museums or memorials, when it comes to writing about the Holocaust this can make it very difficult to create a good and complete story without making up a little bit of it along the way. It is, however, important to ensure the Holocaust isn’t romanticized as that would create a story focused on entertainment instead of memorialization and remembrance.…

In Elie Wiesel’s address to the German Bundestage on Holocaust Remembrance Day in 2000 he says, “I am not sure that I have the answer to the Holocaust, but surerly education is major component of that answer. So emphasize education so that the children who want to know, are able to know,” (Wiesel, 23). Fifteen years since Wiesel’s address, Germany continues to see the importance of Holocaust education, and more recently have increasingly recognized the need for improvements as problems of ignorance, xenophobia, and violence have become more prevalent in German society. Alarming studies of German adolescents like that of Silbermann and Stofferes (2000) concluded that young people’s knowledge about NS “approaches zero”. Although this study was…

As you probably well know, there are many schools across the nation that teach the holocaust. What has come to my attention is that while these schools realize the importance of learning about the holocaust, they never take the time to have their students acknowledge how horrific the circumstances actually were. When learning about the holocaust, children hear about how horrific the circumstances were and think that they understand but in actuality it is very difficult to understand the circumstances without something else to aid in their understanding. I, as a student have been fortunate enough have been able to read Night, by Elie Wiesel. This wonderfully informative book has brought me a significantly greater understanding of the circumstances of the Holocaust than I had in the past.…

As you read this paper I would like you to think about this one question. Why do we treat others so horribly in our society and how may you relate the Holocaust to our modern society. Here are 2 of my own opinions of why I think people today treat others so badly is, that they just do it for fun and laughter or they were commanded to and had no choice. Here is a reason I think the Holocaust began. Germany lost World War 1 and Hitler needed someone to blame it on, so he blamed the imperfects so I think their german government probably suggested to blame and punish the imperfects.…

The past few weeks in this course have really solidified why I took this course in the first place. The Holocaust has always been one of the parts of history I wanted to always learn more about and middle school history classes never went as in depth as I wish they would. Now, though, I’ve heard from firsthand Holocaust survivors and a child of Holocaust survivors. I’m going to try and put into words how these discussions have affected me and what they really meant. It was, obviously, an honor to have these women come in and speak to our class.…
