What is Human Nature? According to Google, “Human Nature is the general psychological characteristics, feelings, and behavioral traits of humankind, regarded as shared by all humans.” Are we really changing as a human being? “I think therefore I am,” the popular quote of philosopher Descartes, is the main premise of his theory of Mind-body Dualism. Interactionism is the theory that there are two realities, mind and body, each of which can have an effect on the other. In contrast, dualists claim that the mind and body are two separate realities. The body is a material thing that operates in a physical reality, while the mind and mental states operate in a nonphysical reality. For the dualist, the way of thinking is an internal thinking on the inside that is private.…
All the above was exemplified by Entwistle (2004) calling it Enemies Paradigm; supporters of each approaches considered that they were right and the others were wrong, that the idea to introduce religious beliefs in any mental or physical treatment was not just illogical but also dangerous (secular version). In contrast, the sacred version of the paradigm stated that the use intervention based on science or logic was hazardous for individuals of faith. Psychology as a science was derived from philosophy on the 19th century, adopting the established methodological naturalism. The main goal was to find a natural explanation to a phenomena embracing the scientific method as the only recourse. Therefore, the biopsychosocial approach is codified.…
In this world, there exist both good and evil, and they both coexist in every humankind genetic trait. Wherever we go, evil is present around us, and there is not a place that is safe from evil. My definitions of evil as sin, an act of rebellion against God, and an act of breaking God 's commandments. Dr. Zimbardo 's definitions of evil as an improper behavior or influence, an act of inhumanity or cruelty, and a desire to kill or to destroy. Both definitions of evil are similar to one another, because they both are part of our human nature, human instinct, and human reasoning.…
On a nature vs. nurture continuum, nature should be followed by humanistic, social cognitive, behavioral, psychoanalytic, and finally nurture. Humanistic is defined as someone that has strong interest or concerns aimed at human morals and self-respect (Humanistic, 2002). Maslow believed we are detached from other animals because of our volume for self-actualization (Rathus, Humanistic Theory, 2014). Maslow and Rogers say “humanists and existentialists survive on the meaning of life” (Rathus, The Humanistic-Existential Perspective, 2014). While self-awareness possibly is the center of considerations but where people have entitlements to the capability of free selection, self-fulfillment, and ethical behavior (Rathus, The Humanistic-Existential…

The mind-body problem is a debate that has raised questions throughout history and is still doing so today, philosophers argue as to whether the mind and body are one entity or two separate entities. The body is what we perceive to be our physical attributes, things like the head, legs, and so forth, the mind is one that controls our feelings, thoughts, and beliefs. For philosophers there are many ways to explain the mind and body problem but the two main ones include materialism and dualism. In this circumstance one has to come to a conclusion as to if they believe that the mind and body are separate entities, dualism, or they are one, materialism.…

In Intellect:Mind over Matter, Mortimer Adler probes the relationship between the mind and the body. He describes the four main theories regarding this relationship and separates them into two categories: extreme and moderate. Among the four theories, Adler argues in favor of moderate immaterialism. His argument is easily the most convincing as it accounts for the essential difference between man and animal, our intellect, while acknowledging the congruity between the mind and body.…

One of them specifically says that there is a distinct disconnection between the mind and body because if you were to hurt a part of the body, it would not directly affect the mind in any form. It would send sensory signals to the brain but the mind itself is still intact. I agree with this because if you were to dislocate your knee for example, your body would send sensory signals of pain to the brain and may not be in a good physical condition but your mind would be. You may be slightly discouraged or feel upset about the situation, but ultimately the dislocation of your knee has not affected your mind. I believe that this confirms his conclusion because he also gives a similar example.…
Human nature is a theory that’s been a debated for centuries upon centuries. Philosophers have argued the concept for as long humans have been on this earth. Perhaps none the wiser than Plato, Socrates and Aristotle .The seemingly underlying truth is that there are characteristics; thinking, acting, feeling. That we all experience consciously or sub-consciously that make humans do the things that they do.…
