Holding Animals In Captivity

Decent Essays
Animals have been being held in captivity for over fifty years. After many injuries and losses to humans, it came to debating whether animals should be still held in zoos, or places where they’re biologically uncomfortable.

I disagree on holding animals in captivity. There is no overall reason to why these animals should be held in an unnatural habitat they’re not used to. In addition to that, the artificial landscape the zoo creates most likely doesn’t resemble anything compared to the place they naturally originated in. For example, an elephant's biome in captivity could be too small because of the fact that they usually roam freely up to one to five-thousand acres daily. If this occurrence continues, it leads to such animals becoming depressed,

Why should elephants live in captivity, why should any animal live in captivity. I believe that no elephant should live in any type of captivity. Elephants are meant to live where they did way before we were even on this planet. We decided to come into their home and destroy it, but the few people who care take them out of their homes into captivity. Yes some Zoos release the animals when they are ready to go back into the wild, but most of them just do it for the money.…

    Animal Captivity Essay

My view on the topic after my research When I originally started this project my initial standpoint was that all forms of animal captivity are wrong. I still stand by this in terms of SeaWorld, circus animals and wildlife parks that simply do not care about the animal’s welfare but what has really changed my mind on the topic is UK Zoos. From communicating with Flamingo Land, Blackpool Zoo and Belfast Zoo, it seems like they all have one common goal in mind; conservation and making sure the animals are fit, healthy and meet with the standards of BIAZA. I feel it is important to protect our wildlife from poachers and extinction and if this means captivity and breading for some time I think it is the lesser of two evils to continue doing so in the right conditions. It is encouraging to know that our county…

Animals getting captured and put up in zoos is a fast growing problem and it's harming innocent animals, this is a very important topic because by capturing animals we put them in danger of extinction and harms aquatic ecosystems, many marine mammals live in large groups and have a high life expectancy, but this greatly decreases when they are kept in captivity, animal captivity is a very common problem, and it is putting many marine species in danger of extinction and needs to be stop, because it harms the marine life and their environments, an example would be dolphins becoming deaf due to the excessive concentration of sounds in aquariums their ability to function normally is also affected, this is why animal captivity needs to stop or is going to the destroy the marine life.…

In these zoos, animals are treated cruelly and are killed for no reason, animals go through mental/psychological disorders, and lack the nutritious values that are only given to them in the wild. These reasons prove that zoos need to be shut down and these helpless animals deserve to live and thrive in the environment and habitat they come from. It is disturbing to think of how positive zoos are seen and how they are a popular attraction for people of all ages. Next time people go to a zoo, they should look closely at these animals and see the misery and depression in their…

Animals are still being forced to live inside cages that are radically smaller than the natural environment that they are meant to live in. Animals are meant to roam in the wild, free spaces and not locked in cages with fake tree, rocks, and ponds. Zoos should not exist because they are inhumane, expensive, and…

With the biotic world still being destroyed and harmed at an alarming rate, entire biomes are endangered and whole ecosystems are threatened by anthropogenic pressures. These changes globally have impelled zoos and aquariums to create and establish conservation benefits. This coupled with the growth in economic rationalism and the rise of corporate management, rationalises the feasibility of projects in terms of economic efficiencies. Which has seen the battle between balancing of public entertainment and money with the welfare of animals. It is argued that zoos need to maintain a more concentrated engagement with a range of ethical and pragmatic consideration in the appraisal of animal welfare under the conditions for research.…

From zoos, to aquariums, to petting zoos, and even our own pets, humans have always been fascinated by animals, and have gone to certain extents to use them for learning purposes, preservation, survival, companionship, and occasionally entertainment. Menageries allow people to learn about animals from a safe distance and see some animals which they would never have seen if it were not for wildlife parks. Many argue that captive animals are not happy in their environment, and should be set free from zoos in their natural habitat. Although many find captivity cruel and unnecessary, having animals in captivity is beneficial to our society as well as to captive animals because when done right, endangered species are protected and well taken care of, people are able to experience beautiful wildlife,…

As substantial of a reason as this sounds it is not sufficient enough to deny animals of their freedom. As Henry David Thoreau once said “to gain true and complete knowledge of wild animals, one must observe them in their natural habitats.” Thoreau who is a famous American poet believed that to really learn about animals you have to study them in their natural habitat. While they are in captivity their behaviors become abnormal due to the fact that they are not in their natural surroundings. Studies have shown that most people who go to the zoo do not go for educational purposes anyways since many of them spend minimal time looking at each display.…

Imagine being in a cage your entire life, locked up in a confined area with people condoning you to a lifetime of of being used as a source of entertainment. The only view an animal in captivity will ever experience, is life behind metal bars and barren concrete with people gawking at them. The number of animals suffering from extreme stress and depression is increasing daily. Zoos teach people it is acceptable to interfere with animals in their natural habitat and continue to place them into captivity; depriving them of open space, herds, and control over their life.…

Animals have been kept in captivity for entertainment reasons and money. The captivity of large animals in zoos and aquariums is cruel and immoral because the natural instincts and behaviors of the animals have been corrupted and the treatment of the animals has turned to abuse; animals are now seen as entertainers, not wild beings. The captivity of animals began when a healthy two-year-old elephant calf left the fields of Ethiopia by the hands of snatchers. P.T. Barnum purchased the giant elephant from the Royal Zoological Society of London in 1880 and named him Jumbo. Barnum was looking for something that would generate money and an audience for his act, The Greatest Show on Earth.…

People say animal captive is dangerous to the animal. People say zoos are better for animals because it keeps the population of that animal up that way it doesn’t go extinct, but i think the animals should be the wild unless they are tameable animals like dogs, cats, and horses. When the animals are in the zoos they can get small area to climb, fly, swim, roam, or run. If the animals in the zoos were in the wild they can mate, find food, or find water on their own. I have three reasons, why it is important for the animals to run wild, people cutting down trees in the wild, and when they are confined it has a negative impact on their behavior and health.…

Wild animals are keeping in captivity for different reasons and in different places like zoos, circus and for researches. In my opinion, I am not like animals keeping in captivity for any reason because they are also living things like us. Animals kept in captivity are like a good family outing to some people but for others, it is like an animal is a cell of prison. The discussion of whether or not animals should be held in captivity is one that will not stop. The discussions go both ways.…
