• Bacteria – A single celled organism that thrives in diverse environments. There are 5 groups that bacteria can be divided into (according to shape): bacilli, cocci, filamentous, spirilla and vibrio. Some are beneficially good for the body and others can be parasitic and produce toxins that can cause disease or death.
• Fungi – A single celled or multicellular organism which cause infection to a healthy body or can be opportunistic pathogens that cause infections in immunocompromised persons. Fungi is also used for good in the development of antibiotics and other drugs which are used to control a range of human diseases. …show more content…

• Person-to-person contact (direct) – when an infected person has a direct bodily contact or exchanges body fluids with a person who is uninfected (this can occur before the infected has symptoms and passes them on without knowing.)
• Airborne (indirect) – Pathogens can enter the body through the respiratory tract when via droplets or dust when an infected person coughs or sneezes.
• Placenta – an unborn foetus can become infected by pathogens from the mother that are able to enter the foetal circulation through the placental blood vessels.
• Vectors – typically an insect or animal that transmit pathogenic organisms from one host to another.
