Aside from utilizing statistics to describe the distribution of population health, I was also taught how to apply statistics to community health program evaluations. In HLTH391, we utilized quantitative and qualitative survey measures to determine if we reached our set objectives and goals of the health fair. The grant proposal assignment in HLTH490 also required the class to apply statistic and research methods to determine outcome and impact evaluation of the program they were seeking funding for. In order to evaluate the set objectives of our grant proposal, my group and I sought to administer pretest and posttest evaluations at baseline and at program end. At my internship site, I have also been utilizing statistical measures in order to determine the health outcomes of the prenatal moms. While taking HLTH371, three other students and I created a health campaign seeking to reduce stress faced by students attending UMD. This campaign took into account short term, medium term, and long term goals of the campaign that would enable us to reach our ultimate objective, “A Stress Free UMD”. HLTH490 also emphasized the importance of formulating short and long term interventions in order to meet the health need of a target population. When creating our health campaign, “Active Kids”, my group and I consider the short term, medium term, and long term outcomes we wanted to accomplish. We incorporated brief educational classes that were scheduled to last for about 3 months in order to address some desire outcomes of our campaign.
