Hirsch’s Desire for a National Curriculum by Eugene F. Provenzo Jr. is a reading that compares Provenzo and Hirsch’s thoughts on whether or not to establish a national curriculum. What motivates Provenzo to write this piece it to challenge Hirsch’s views on having a national curriculum, which includes his views and opinions on curricular fragmentation and the decreasing literacy rate of students(P.3).

Flower, the difference between knowledge and attitude is that knowledge is what exactly the reader has knowledge of, or is completely absent of that information, and attitude usually comes from association to images and other facts of information that we are not consciously aware of. She wrote this with the idea that we had the basic premise of how to write a high school level paper, but to get on our level she explained step-by-step the process of make an outstanding college level writing. Flower does show a sensitivity to her audience through her language by making everything she says straight-forward,easy to comprehend, and provides examples to further support her ideas. For example she states, “A good college paper doesn’t just rehash the facts; it demonstrates what your reader, as a teacher, needs, to know-that you are learning the thinking skills his or her course is trying to teach”(Flower, P9). From this sentence I know exactly one thing that makes a college paper improve, no rehashing the facts, and she tells exactly why this is important for easier
