Hiring Contract Positions

Contract positions are employment arrangements that do not involve the same level of commitment as an employer-employee relationship. If you hire contract workers, you are not required to pay employment taxes on the hours they work as you would for a regular employee. Hiring contract workers can save you money, but make sure that your arrangements with these workers conform to IRS guidelines.

Definition
Because every work arrangement is different, the IRS does not provide set rules to determine who can qualify as a contract worker, but rather outlines a series of guidelines. These include assessments of whether the contract worker uses his own tools and infrastructure to perform tasks, or whether he uses gear that belongs to the company. If
