Director of special projects at the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) Jack Martin, in his article “Illegal Immigration Leads to Higher Crime Rates” clarifies the misimpression of academic researchers have on illegal aliens and related crime rates. Martin’s purpose is to inform his audience as he explains how the data provided for the American public is inaccurate. He has a direct tone in order to convey his readers that the data of high crime rates among Illegal Immigrants are uninformed. The Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) is there to estimate the amount of adult illegal aliens. This service eliminates adult illegal aliens from the school aged illegal aliens. He the states “Thus the likelihood that an illegal alien will be among those incarcerated (1 in 21) is significantly greater than the share of adult illegal aliens in the country (1 in 31). It is this greater likelihood of being incarcerated that clearly demonstrates that illegal aliens are disproportionately involved in criminal activity.” The author creates a strong disapproval in his last sentence, as he found evidence giving the reader a concrete idea that the information shown isn't what is seems. Martin throughout his article explains what he thinks about the data of illegal immigration crime rates. He provides research and data from other services and programs in order to back up his side. There is a handful of logos and emotional appeal in his writing, where he provides data and resources as well as strong tone. Overall the author’s effectiveness gives the reader a good understanding of what to look for when researching facts and
