In my opinion, based off the two articles i just read and my own personal experience, public school students should always have the right to choose a cursive or handwriting elective class. But i also do not believe that cursive should be a graduation requirement for high school students. In these times cursive is just becoming a nice skill to have aquired. What ifluenced me from article 1 was all the benefits of cursive he was naming, but there wasnt much evidence to support his theory so i had a hard time completely believing him. Quotes like " Medical brain scans show that writing in cursive helps with fine motor-skill development and stimulates both the right and left parts of the brain. " and " As reported in a leading newspaper, some people whose brain injuries prevent them from reading or writing print or type are still able to read or write cursive. " seemed a little far fetched but i like to have faith, so i believe he is right that cursive has a lot of meaning to the the culture, people with typing and printing problems, and the older generations.

Sentences such as " Handwriting has taken a backseat to typing as technology dominates the way we communicate. " had me more focused on the excerpt more then writing my own essay. The thing that convinced me that cursive is a skill more than a necessity nowadays was " The global econemy requires students to be prepared to type and have computer skills, not prepared to write in cursive.
