High school has taught me many things that will help me out with college and my future career. This includes skills that I have developed throughout my four years of attending high school. There are nine essential skills, but from those nine I chose two in which I feel I gained more confidence in. The two essential skills I chose are thinking critically and analytically, also demonstrating personal management and teamwork skills. I developed these skills in all school subjects, but especially in Allied Health, doing many projects and activities. These projects and activities include test taking, writing essays and class activities; which are all included in thinking critically and analytically. This is a non-traditional high school and based on the population and my experience during the fall semester I still think that there is a lot to do here for this particular population (about their age, legal and social status). Everybody seemed very committed to work hard to support these students. It is true that regarding working with them in regular sessions is a challenge for the counselor. I feel it is difficult to work directly with students as probably I could have worked in a traditional school. I am really interested in working with this population and I also feel that if someone wants to learn and understand the immigrant population in other schools in this area and other areas this is a great place to learn.…

On the internet, there is a "meme" called the Asian grading system. Though amusing, it reveals some of the pressures that Asian Americans often face growing up with overbearing parents. Students without parents to push them struggle to catch up in the competitiveness environment that exists in high schools across America. I'm a victim of the race to perfection, academic excellence and the pressures of failure and shortcomings. I'm not the only one and I won't be the last.…

Taking the peak performance assessment test, my lowest areas are writing, speaking, mathematics, and critical thinking. Speaking I believe I would be okay if I wasn't so shy in front of strange people. Writing I just have a lost for words. My mathematics, I just don't understand it. I feel if I applied confidence and learning not to let fear play a role in my abilities, it would help.…

What initially stimulated my interest in the field of dental hygiene was doing a research project on the occupation of a dental hygienist while I was in high school. From doing the project, I learned the tasks, years of education, hours, and salary of a dental hygienist which further intrigued my interest in the field. When I was younger, I had braces and learned that I would need jaw surgery, which made me more curious about the dental field. The more research and experiences I encountered in this field, the more I knew I wanted to be a dental hygienist. My desire to be a dental hygienist has increased as I’ve participated with professionals and observed a broad range of procedures.…

Melanie Klein believed that human beings' core conflict is one of love(hate) and good (bad); the earlier ones as presence and latter ones as absence (Professor Brizman, course slide). The paranoid-schizoid is the splitting of good and bad and there is no ambivalence in this position. However, the human experience to identify good and bad is ambivalent for the reason that a state of mind is an emotional experience which it isn't just one state of mind but with many. Learning itself too is an emotional situation, for example, my learning this Adolescent Development course has been an emotional experience.…

Senior year…the most fun year according to all my elders, the most stressful year according to my teachers, but for me, it has been an amazingly reflective year thus far. Every essay or assignment so far has asked me to analyze my perspective looking forward, backward, inward, globally, etc… At first, the process of deep analysis into my psyche about who I want to be and where I have been felt scary and daunting so I ran as fast as I could to my Momma! Of course, she proceeded to cry uncontrollably as she whaled, “My baby boy is going to leave me and never come back. You know you used to give me the best hugs when you were little all the time without me asking!” As a good son I did start giving more hugs, unfortunately the crying still has not ceased yet.…
