You mentioned how nurses have a hard job in managing patients pain adequately while also achieving high patient satisfaction scores. Pain scales and patient pain goal expectations are tools used in healthcare in efforts to achieve adequate pain control. However, the expectations patients are desiring are often times not met. This results in patient satisfaction scores that are not desirable. With patient satisfaction scores being linked to reimbursement, this puts nurses between a rock and a hard place (Hayes & Gordon, 2015). One of the strategies the doctors on the maternity unit where I work uses to help in pain control, is to use high doses of acetaminophen and ibuprofen to achieve adequate pain control.
