From the wild west to the tropical south, adventure and challenges fill both High Noon and “The Most Dangerous Game”. High Noon is a movie written by Carl Foreman about a marshal trying to fight for his life against a convict he had locked up. “The Most Dangerous Game” is a short story written by Richard Connell about a hunter, who finds himself stranded on an island, and he finds out the man he is staying with will only let the hunter leave if he can survive being hunted by the man for three days. Both High Noon and “The Most Dangerous Game” are stories that have many similarities like conflict and theme, and there are also many differences like the characters. When Will and Amy, who is his wife, are fighting about him staying in town, Will says, “I’ve got to stay Amy” (Foreman 296). Will Kane was told by many that he should leave, yet he decided that he would stay. No one forced him to stay; he even got many options to leave. Whereas, Rainsford, the hunter, told General Zaroff, “I wish to leave this island at once” (Connell 16). However, General Zaroff blackmailed him into staying. Rainsford had no choice, if he wanted to live, because Ivan would kill him otherwise. Rainsford did not chose stay; he had to play along with General Zaroff if he wanted at least a chance at surviving. Even though, both characters had to fight for their lives, they could have had a different outcome. For example, Rainsford did not have the choice to fight for his life or to not fight. Meanwhile, Kane had the choice to leave, but he chose to stay. Above all, both characters were in different situations even though the both had to fight for their
