There are so many sexual transmitted diseases (STD) out there in today’s day and time, to pick just one to write about or learn more about is hard. As I looked down the list of STD’s, I shuttered just thinking about reading and writing on each. Then I thought of teaching my son about these and figured HPV might be a good one but there is a vaccine now to help that, a vaccine in which he is in the process of receiving the shots for now. However, herpes, as far as I think anyways, is one of the that can lays dormant for years whereas you have no clue when or where you retrieved it. A lot that have it do not even know they do, so is a very widely spread one and herpes does not have a vaccine to prevent it, as HPV now does, nor is it curable.
There are two types of herpes, HSV-1 and HSV-2. The herpes simplex virus type 1 which causes oral sores around the mouth and lips, referred to as fever blisters or cold sores, this one is not always sexual transmitted, hence why a lot of children have this virus (“Herpes Simplex: Herpes Type 1 And 2”, n.d.). It can be spread by kissing and other contact sexual yes but also by sharing drinks, forks, spoons, food, chap sticks, etc… Anything that spreads from one set of lips to another. Then the herpes simplex virus type 2 is the sexual transmitted one for sure, this one is genital herpes

The only true protection from this is abstinence, no sex what so ever, be it oral, anal, or vaginal. Safe sex, or a use of a condom, can be helpful, however this is all that can. The fact of being in a relationship with someone for years, does not always put you in the clear due to this is a dormant disease, remember they may not have a clue they have it or when got it, until it appears and they are clueless.
