Mississippi grew into a bigger state. Mississippi brought many slaves in and used slaves to do a lot of their dirty work. They would treat slaves the way they feel they needed to be treated. Mississippi was a state that wanted to be on it’s on from the beginning, with no one to look up too.
Question 2: During the 1840’s and 1850’s slavery began to change all because of one crop, known specifically as cotton. People all around the south started to purchase slaves of all ages, just to pick cotton. Cotton was their way of making money and surviving. “Plantations in Mississippi maximized the number of bales of cotton to be sold by using the cotton gin, which removed seeds more efficiently than they could be removed by hand.”
Slaves in this time in history was a profitable choice. Pay to the slaves was very little so the plantation owners made a lot of money off of the men, women, and children. The story is about a man named Newt Knight. He was a white man that cared about everyone, no matter the color of the skin. He was a medic in the war for the Confederacy. During his time there, he sees a young boy that he knows from back home. He told Newt that his family’s farm back at home has been seized and he was forced to come to the army. The young boy gets shot in this movie and Newt wants to take him home to his mother so he can have a proper burial. Newt left the army and became known as a deserter. When he arrives home, he gets the terrible news that his infant son is sick. He then sneaks into town to get help, and a slave girl named Rachel helps his son. Newt fights back at the army and tells everyone not to move from their farm, that basically he will help them all. As time passes, Newt forms a army and basically tries to fight the confederacy with his army of slaves. Newt did not care about the color of the skin he fought for justice for everyone. Since Newt was a runaway from the army he was a fugitive, his wife and infant left. Newt found a new love, Rachel the same girl who healed his infant son earlier in the movie. Although he was not able to marry her, they did have a child
