Henri Cartier-Bresson's Photography

Today marks a significant time stone; I have been living in London for exactly one month and the experience it has been. Filled with delicious pastries, local market discoveries, late night adventures and embarrassing stories resulting from confusion around the difference between black or white coffee, I like to think my time in London, so far has been well spent. However, reflecting upon some of my favorite experiences and sights I’ve seen I’ve begun to see a reoccurring theme. I frequent Hyde Park on a semi regular basis. I have spent hours wondering aimlessly and sitting. In a city full of bustling people, cars and noise, the park acts as a serene escape. Whether it is sunny, cloudy, a good or bad day the park provides an oasis of pure complacently. …show more content…
Having visited a few galleries and seen a variety of photographers, this exhibition has been my favorite. While all of his photographs were beautiful, I admire his technique the most. The fact, none of his images are edited or cropped to enhance picturesque moment it impressive. He truly has an eye and ability to understand the art capturing a moment. At the exhibit, one photograph that I reacted to the most strongly was titled “Hyde Park in the grey drizzle.” For me this photograph symbolizes my time spent in Hyde Park.

I feel as though the image embodies the tranquil atmosphere of the park through the representation of the women sitting contently. Though she is alone and the weather is drizzly, the woman is shown in a relaxed position with no rush or obligation, just appreciating her time to herself.

As for Cartier-Bresson’s camera technique the focus played a crucial role in capturing the essence of the park. The woman of the photograph is represented sitting on the park benches with no one around her. She is the lone figure, thus grabbing the viewer’s attention immediately. Through being the woman being the sole focus a sense of escape, where the world melts away is represented. If there had been other people or even movement occurring in the background, perhaps the tone would not represent that park with such

Introduction Australia has some of the worlds most diverse and unique ecosystems, these are constantly under threat from both human impacts and natural processes. I believe that to protect our native species we need to attract people to our National parks, one example of this is Kings Park a state icon in Western Australia with over 13,000 different species located and protected on its grounds. The problem with Kings Park is that it doesn’t receive the attention it deserves. I think by building biomes and other interesting Architectural wonders, we can create artificial ecosystems too hold an even larger variety of flora from all the different ecosystems around Australia and the world. These new buildings serves the purpose of showcasing Australia’s…

It is a photograph, with three-dimensional and naturalistic qualities. It has a narrative and is it asymmetrical. The main feeling I get when I look at this photograph is love. See how loving the couple is standing holding close to each other, enjoying their time together. In addition, a calming feeling is portrayed, they are relaxing, and their positioning of their bodies shows contentment.…

On October 28, 2015 I attended the William Marcellous Lindgren Asian Art Collection Reception in the Miller Center occurring from 4-5 PM. This event displayed St. Cloud State’s large collection of Asian art such as paintings, sculptures, stone carvings, metalwork, decorative arts, and ceramics. All of these art pieces are from nine different countries, spanning many centuries. I learned that William Lindgren was a former professor here at St. Cloud State University, and he donated his collection of Asian art to SCSU upon his death. He collected all of this artwork from when he lived, worked, and traveled throughout Asia in the 1950s and 1960s for his work, resulting in an incredibly diverse collection.…

Central Park painted by Adolf Dehn in 1942 using watercolor on paper, light colors in the front of the painting caught my eye when I was examining the photos. Adolf Dehn uses light colors such as a light green and people strolling through the park to portray the light side of New York City which is in the back of the painting with dark and grey colors with cloudy skies. In the center of the painting Dehn uses a white and light green mixture, suggesting the calmness of the painting. There are many trees in the park and two ladies in the center of the stage with a baby carriage, with a man to their right, and three more person in the far back on the hill. Your eye catches the light color in central park and how few people there are in the park,…

A life in New York City is a vastly personal experience that is famous for being unlike a life in any other metropolis. “City Limits” by Colson Whitehead explores the idea that everyone who goes to and lives in New York has their own, unique version of the city. From the moment an individual steps foot in the city, she is “building [her] private New York,” (Whitehead 1). My personal New York —the food stands, pharmacies, and avenues I would come to call home—formed when I moved to Manhattan to attend New York University.…
