Reading “Nopalitos”: The Making of Fiction by, Helena Maria Viramontes I felt no immediate connection to her story. This is because a few reasons, I’m not by lingual, a mother, a woman or have a passion for writing. But, the story caught my interest eventually, when she talked about her and her family. Her family like mine “Always extended its couch or floor to whomever stopped at our house with nowhere else to go”. My mother and father already supporting six kids, me, my two brothers and three sisters, still found a way to put food on the tablet to feed us and anyone with us at the time. I like in the story, that Maria says that her mother was always able to find a space in a cramped house. This made me think because my mom seems the same
