This is true for every type of music due to the effect music can have on someone’s emotions, thoughts, and beliefs. In a study conducted it was found that those who liked and listened to heavy metal had a higher rate of performing reckless behavior. In the article Heavy metal music and reckless behavior among adolescents by Jeffrey Arnett there was an experiment to see if heavy metal related to reckless behavior. The study of Arnett found the following:
Boys who liked heavy metal music reported a higher rate of a wide range of reckless behavior, including driving behavior, sexual behavior, and drug use. They were also less satisfied with their family relationships. Girls who liked heavy metal music were more reckless in the areas of shoplifting, vandalism, sexual behavior, and drug use, and reported lower self-esteem. Both boys and girls who liked heavy metal music were higher in sensation seeking and more self-assured with regard to sexuality and dating. This results prove how heavy metal relates to someone’s decisions. People wo listen to heavy metal therefore are more likely to be involved in bad behaviors that listeners of other type of music would not be involved
