job. If the work conditions are not adequate and the facility is understaffed, the patient may

The majority of
employers have a toll free assistance number available to employees for the purpose of reporting
serious issues that can not be resolved by direct supervisors. The call can be confidential, so the
employee can be worry free of future repercussions. As opposed to nurses, physicians are not
always direct employees of the hospital. They are there through a contract, so they are more
independent than nurses. In many states, physicians are required to have their own insurance
aside from the hospital they work at. “Medical malpractice insurance is a specialized type of
professional liability insurance that covers physician liability arising from disputed services that
result in a patient’s injury or death.” (Medical Malpractice Insurance, n.d.) Since physicians have
their own insurance and are many times not direct employees of the hospital, they can manage
patient care better. The right to strike, collectively bargain, and unionize should still be given to
the physicians. Seeking better job conditions for themselves results in better care for the patients,
