“I really wanted to do something related to health care, that’s my reason for getting into this field”, she says. Brenda has a bachelor’s degree in health information management from California College San Diego (CCSD). Over the course of her career, she has worked in numerous health information management settings, which included insurance companies, hospitals, and physician offices. “The wonderful thing about this field, is that we can work in so many different settings”, she adds. Brenda’s job duties as RHIA is coding for provider report cards, auditing, reporting, analyzing and collecting the data of patients. That data collected will include any and all information about the patient, such as their insurance information, this is important because before a patient can be admitted at Kaiser Permanente they must have insurance that covers their care, the patients personal information is collected such as, prior surgeries, vital signs, billing number and patient’s identification number. “I am involved with all levels of the organization which includes financial, clinical and administrative, and information systems” she says. Margaret started her career out as a certified nurse assistant and worked her way up to management in less than 3 years. Merritt Manor is a long term care facility that has 100 beds, with 18 of those beds being Medicare certified. The facility has a staff of 10 nurses and 40 certified nursing assistants. This facility has a number of healthcare services that it provides including long and short term care, skilled 24/7 nursing, care for patients who suffer from Alzheimer’s/ Dementia and outpatient rehab.
