Americans walk around with their heads tilted towards the ground staring at the little rectangle in their hands. It is almost like the little rectangle controls their minds, giving them directions on how to live their lives, almost as if they can’t live without it. I believe technology today is creating a negative effect on society. Due to the increasing dependence on technology people are having many health issues, are isolated from the rest of society, and are being taken advantage of through internet scams. A vital part of our mind is our imagination. Children with developing imaginations, need to use it every day as part of their daily routine. When they sit at home watching the tv, or playing video games their imagination doesn’t need to work because everything is created right in front of them. Fox news states “The exercise of imagination and intuitive thinking relies on an atmosphere where the mind has nothing else to do but dream or think in silence.” Children never get the chance to experience boredom these days because they are always sucked into technology like tv and internet. (Revolution Green) Together with Health issues, technology can also cause problems in our social life. We live a life isolated from our family and friends. Isolation is defined by Webster’s Dictionary as to set apart, to separate from another substance so as to obtain pure or in free state. Today anybody can sell anybody anything online, without the buyer even knowing if the product is worth their money. Sellers all over the internet advertise how amazing their products are, but when the buyer receives the product, it is not all that it is brought up to be. People are being taken advantage of all over the world because of technology. NASS Business Identity Theft Task Force wrote an article about American’s being taken advantage by criminals, states
“Criminals routinely use email and websites to commit their fraud schemes and lure in unsuspecting victims. To add an additional appearance of credibility and legitimacy, criminals often place hijacked business confidence marks on their sites. A confidence mark is a service offered by many organizations that indicates the business has been vetted or verified in some way by the organization issuing the mark, and it is intended to instill confidence in consumers that the business is legit. Let Them Get Bored”, by Alyson Jones (2014), advises parents to permit their children to experience boredom as it is an essential component of a child’s development. Jones declares that it is not the parent’s responsibility to constantly amuse his/her children, instead, exposing children to boredom is more beneficial as it allows them to better understand themselves and their own personal thoughts. Furthermore, this self-awareness leads to better comprehending the emotions and actions required to develop social connections with others. Likewise, boredom increases one’s creativity, while also motivating a child to strive for additional success.…

Technology has improved in todays society, so much that it has become a reliable source of communication, and storage for very important files and documents. Ones own memory however is very important to stimulate for their own good, and for times that technology cannot be accessible. As stated by Sophie McBain author of “Head In The Cloud”. “ Apart from the few occasions when my phone has run out of battery at a crucial moment, or the day I was accidentally plunged it into hot tea, or the evening my handbag was stolen, it hasn 't seemed to matter that I have downloaded most of my working memory on electronic devices.” This is a perfect example of why one should rely on their own memory instead of technology.…
