The purpose of this report is to examine the health interview that was conducted with a fellow student using a Health Assessment form. This report includes verbal and non- verbal communication skills. These skills are important to nursing practice, especially when interviewing a patient. Therefore, this report includes primary and secondary research to explain the significance of interpersonal communication skills. Specifically, the report analyses rapport communication, active listening skills, open, closed and probing questions and haptic. Hence, these are some skills that might be useful to nurses when conducting a health interview. Furthermore, the report acknowledges the limitations of this study which are, one interview was only conducted to write this report, the students chose who they were going to interview and not all topics on the health …show more content…
The form provides a background information about the patient’s health history (‘Interviewing and the health history’, n.d.). Therefore, health assessment form is an important tool because the information that were gathered are used to devise a treatment plan (‘Interviewing and the health history’, n.d.). Furthermore, assessing a patient cultivates trust between patient and nurse, and this builds therapeutic relationships (‘Interviewing and the health history’, n.d.). Nevertheless, therapeutic relationship can be established through relating or connecting to the patient (‘Interviewing and the health history’, n.d.). They become more at ease when sharing personal information, and as a result, it increases the process of healing, emotionally and mentally (‘Interviewing and the health history’, n.d.). For this reason, building a connection to the patient decreases the feeling of isolation, and provides a supporting environment that patient’s health begins to improve (‘Interviewing and the health history’,
