But, here are just a few reasons. My father was diagnosed with cataracts, clouding of the eyes, and it is the reason for his altered vision. Weight loss, loss of appetite, low self-esteem, numbness and tingling in extremities, anxiety, missing teeth, and irritability, are only some of the symptoms he has experienced over the years. He developed two peptic ulcers, lesions in the lining of the stomach, in his life that required abdominal surgeries. Can you guess the cause? Cigarettes! My brother, on the other hand, decided to try his first cigarette during junior year of high school but kept it a secret from our parents until he no longer could hide this secret. Nicotine dependence can provoke individuals to participate in extreme measures to satisfy its cravings. My parents were called one day from a local K-Mart store indicating that their son was caught stealing. What was he caught stealing? Cleaning products hoping to sell them for profit and use it to purchase cigarettes. The fear of asking my parents for money to purchase a cigarette and the craving for a cigarette lead to stealing. It will not happen again, the response we received from my brother each time. Eventually, he dropped out of high school and continued his journey with cigarette smoking. Is it worth it? Education is important for children to unlock their potential and to attain a reputable career. His youth was wasted and so
