SWOT Analysis SWOT analysis is defined as a study undertaken by an organization to identify its internal strengths and weaknesses, as well as its external opportunities and threats. (Fallen, 2017) Gaining a full understanding of SWOT analysis and its benefits are vital in the healthcare industry. The healthcare industry is impacted in many ways, by multiple variables. It is imperative that the healthcare industry have continued growth, to keep up with the people in healthcare as well as the technologies that become available almost daily. This analysis can be used to seek out areas of weakness to improve upon them as well as define the threats and discover ways to overcome them. Starting with the strengths it is a positive that the Community Hospital has a strong management model and because of this has a low volume of medical malpractice. However, the strong management model may be difficult to update, which is a requirement to overcome the increasing amount of chronic disease patients, which is one of the greater threats facing the organization. Another strength is the fact that over half of the employees have college experience and more than half of that have an acquired degree. This means that the employees are well knowledgeable and capable. The strength of employee intelligence plays a major part in the fact that the organization is accredited by the Joint Commission. The strict requirements of the Joint Commission mean the Community Hospital delivers good quality of service as well. However, one of the facilities weaknesses, are that although the organizations staff are educated, they have reported issues of being and struggling to keep up with the increased number of patients. A significant increase in staffing and recruitment must take place to meet the needs of the current organization and the community it serves. With the development of a new automotive business, community hospital but consider the possibility of the increased needs of the community. By not considering this as a potential increase in patients this can create a domino effect if the facility and the staff is under prepared. Not having enough staff to accommodate this increase in patients can be a potential downfall. Another weakness is the fact that the company has, in recent years fallen behind its competitors in the market sharing distribution. This may also be because of the threat that a competitor has recently updated their facility drawing in more of the market
