The head has various anatomical components. The skull is the structure which main function is to protect the brain; it is made up of the bones of the cranium and the face. Muscles and skin cover these bones, and this cover is called the scalp. Fourteen bones in the anterior region of the skull form the face. These bones provide structure for the face and cavities for nose, eyes and mouth. Also, these bones allow the mandible to move.
