Volcanic Application Assignment
1. Which Plate contains the Hawaiian Island-Emperor seamount chain?
The Pacific plate contains the Hawaiian Island-Emperor seamount chain. This mountain range is under water mountain range, it reaches above the sea level in Hawaii. Composed a rigid mountain range it is situated in the northwest of Kure and Emperor Seamount. Starched from the northwest to southwest beneath the Pacific Ocean it consists of many seamounts, shallow banks and reefs along the line. More than 75 volcanoes have been found so far that are stretched over 3600 miles. Transformed over a span of 70 million years as the result of intense volcanic activity, the movement of Pacific Plate over the stationary hot spots has created a large series of volcanos across the island. A previous interpretation showed a sharp bend in the chain about 2200 miles northwest to the island.
2. Hawaiian Island chain is located on a plate boundary?
Yes it is located in the boundary of pacific plate.
3. Which of the island is youngest?
Hawaii is the youngest of island.
4. Which of the sea mount is the oldest?
Loihi is the oldest located sea mount on the Emperor Seamount chain.
5. How did the island and seamount formed?
This mountain range is under water mountain range, it reaches above the sea level in

The research studies reveal the changing dynamics and showed that earth is left as the only planet in the solar system with the movement of tectonic plates. The studies also show that the planets like Mars and Venus had the same types of plates but they have not been detected for a long time. According to the geologists the major tectonic plate in the earth’s crust are Eurasian, North American, South American, the African, the Antarctic, Pacific and Indoaustralian plates. However along with the plates mentioned above there are some micro and secondary plates in the earth

Continental Drift Gondwana was an ancient supercontinent that existed hundreds of millions of years ago. It was made of many continents that we know today. It broke up a long time ago because of something called Continental Drift. Continental drift is what it is called when the tectonic plates move around and rearrange and reshape the continents. Gondwana was made up of 5 main pieces; Africa, South America, Australia, India, and Antarctica.…

The topic of this discussion is to explain why Africa and South America are moving apart. The drifting apart of Africa and South America has to do with the theory known as the theory of plate tectonics. Based on this model, the crust the coolest part of the mantle, make up Earth’s strong outer layer, known as the lithosphere. Right beneath the lithosphere is the asthenosphere, the hottest part of the mantle. Rocks at this depth are very near the melting temperature, and respond to forces by flowing similarly to the way a thick liquid would.…

A fascinating thing about tectonic plates is that they cause a variety type of volcanos. Some even form islands and land. This relates to the thesis because land and islands are a part of what form the earth's structure. For example, adding a hole in your house would dramatically be changing its structure. Same with volcanos on earth.…

Neotectonics in Australia. Abstract The cratons of the world that are located at a distance from plate boundaries are considered to be stable tectonically, but in real sense, they are subjected to regular disturbance that are less persistence and also of lesser magnitude than those that lies near plate boundaries, Nonetheless their manifestation can be seen in landscape. Neotectonics are post Miocene tectonic deformation on the earth surface.…

Which then produce enormous volcanic eruptions and the molten rock that does not erupt become solid onto the edges of the plates as they spread apart. Now let’s talk about the global distribution of the mid-ocean ridges and how they are spread around the whole globe. Mid-Atlantic Ridge and the East Pacific Rise are two most studied ridges by geologists. The Mid-Atlantic Ridge runs down the center of the Atlantic Ocean and then spread slowly, forming a rift valley while the East Pacific Rise spread 5 times faster than the Mid-Atlantic ridge. Due its fast spreading, the East Pacific Rise doesn’t have a rift valley instead it possess a smooth volcanic summit with a crack throughout the crest.…

The Formation of Australia Although Australia has the least surface area compared to other continents, it does have a long geological history. Australia is formed by many geological elements resulting in the present-day Australia. Continental drift is the movement of the Earth's continents shifting (Appearing to be 'drifting') on Earth's surface. There have been many supercontinents, throughout history, which had existed on Earth's surface for millions of years.…

Oceanic plates collide with continental plates, resulting in oceanic plate subduction creating volcanic activity most of the time near convergence zones. While, continental to continental plate collisions sculpts flat landscapes into a high chain of mountains, diverging oceanic floors create underwater ridges. Diverging plate boundaries spread plates due to the outward movement, contributed by the upwelling coming from forces originated in the mantle and asthenosphere. The water–magma (lava) interaction, and the diverging and converging forces help in the formation of underwater mountain chains called mid-ocean ridges (Christopherson and Birkeland 340,…

Millions of years ago our Earth was called Pangea. This was the name for the Earth as it was when basically all the land/continents were attached as one giant portion of land surrounded by sea. As millions of years passed, the portion of land known as Pangea began to spread apart into several portions of land until it could no longer be called Pangea. Finally today, we know Earth as being a vast planet with several continents that are a result of the spread of Pangea. This is understood to be the result of continental drift.…

The non-Pacific convergent zone has numerous active volcanoes erupting every day; one of them located just south of India erupts every 20-30 minutes! The non-Pacific convergent zone includes the southern part of the Eurasian plate boundary, east of India, and through Indonesia. Overall, this zone is quite active with volcanic activity. Every day that I recorded had at least four volcanoes erupting and at least six or seven at an eruption warning. All of these volcanoes listed in this zone were at some sort of watch for eruptions.…

The theory created by scientists that describes the past movements of our continents is called Continental Drift. This theory is supported by plate tectonics, a relatively new idea that explains the constant movement of Earth's crust. Two-hundred million years ago, our seven continents fitted together, as if part of a puzzle. These continents made up one supercontinent, known as Pangea. When Pangea began to disperse into the current continental positions the process of plate tectonics began.…

When you look at a globe of the earth it is easy to think that the earth has always been this way that the continents and the ocean basins have always been where they are now and they will always be. But if you examine the globe closely you may notice something curious. Some of the continents appear as if they have been joined at one time. A good example of this are the coast lines of South America and Africa. When you compare them with just a little bit of adjustment that they match quite nicely like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle.…
