In the book Love that Dog, Jack talks about not liking poetry because only girls write poetry. The author also talks about that Jack did not know if his poems were actually poems or not. Now Jack really likes writing poetry and he is confident about his poems. He is also learning at school, that there are ways to make poetry even more creative, using onomatopoeias and alliterations. He is developing the way he writes poetry, because in the classroom the teacher is sharing more complex poetry to look at different point of views. Poets they have used in the classroom are Edgar Allen Poe (twenty-four), William Carlos Williams (ninety-two), Mr. Tennyson (thirty-nine), and many others. Miss Stretchberry is providing different poets and styles for the students to experience in the classroom.
