Hard of Hearing community. This paper is not intended to support or deny the existence and
importance of these groups instead to compare and contrast this group among each other. It
rather seeks to examine each group diversity within the community and provide an explanation
of the factors that identified each group within the Hard of Hearing community. By focusing on
three major groups of the Hard of Hearing community. These groups are called minority groups

this group is becoming more involved in their local politics and the problems their community
face such as inequality to a better education or employment options. They pretty much share the
same values, norms, language, and the experiences that they have gone through to be counted in
their majority communities and Hard of Hearing.
Some of the differences among these groups are obvious; some are their skin color,
appearance, and most importantly their diverse history and cultural backgrounds. Because of
their ethnicities, these groups are being classified and divide in minorities that arise many

According to the article “What is the difference between “hard of hearing” and “deaf?” “some of
the most noticeable differences is that many people in these groups are born with some hearing
and other lost it at the age of three years old” (Conklin, 2008). However some are different
because of their social background, education, and family background and culture background.
Regardless of how these groups identified themselves within their communities, they are
unique in their way. This community is very diverse depending on the and how their social
factors influence their identity. According to the article “About . . . Being Hard of Hearing” it
talks about how culture is one of the major factors that influenced on how Hard of Hearing
people identify themselves with the community. Other factors that lead to a Hard of Hearing
identity are communication barriers, employment opportunities, education, family support, and
