Harajuku Fashion Style Essay

Harajuku is known by many as a youth fashion that has taken place in the streets of Tokyo since the late 80’s and early 90’s, currently Harajuku represents the distinct styles of dress in Japanese culture. In this research paper I will be attempting to deconstruct the Japanese street style and it’s influence on world wide dress. In the process of deconstructing Harajuku style (Lolita) I intend to discuss the origin of the street style, iconicity in the style, the style in it’s trickle down influence, and the discrete individuality expressed in this style. In this paper I also seek to furnish a thorough showing of Harajuku culture and the depict how pop culture has made a groundbreaking impact on youth ideals of Harajuku. Ironically, this particular style of dress was derived from past inspiration but plays a very significant role on present world dress and future style of dress. In reality, many of us know that frilly skirts and button down cardigans match a hair bow will not be lived down in our lifetime, it is one of the most prevailing clothing mimics of western culture, the Lolita fashion teens just do it with a bit more elegance. Classic Lolita fashion was planted in the world of dress in the late eighties and has managed to reinvent itself all the way into the twenty first century.Now, because I am unable to tell the future I can never quite say what is in store for this popular trend, but I can say that I have been witnessing it since a young girl and I honestly don’t think it has any intentions on stopping.Hopefully, Classic Lolita fashion will continue making it’s way into mainstream fashion because it is fun and youthful which is what I think to often times young women of this generation lack, we could infact use more influence from Lolita dress in our everyday
