In her book What Happened to Goodbye, Sarah Dressen wrote: “Home wasn't a set house, or a single town on a map. It was wherever the people who loved you were, whenever you were together. Not a place, but a moment, and then another, building on each other like bricks to create a solid shelter that you take with you for your entire life, wherever you may go.” Many people get wrapped up in defining home as a house, but it is so much more. A good book, cup of hot coffee, or thoughtful conversation with a friend/loved one; all of those evoke welcomed feelings of home. More specifically, the comfort of home, for me, comes from a sense of security, the warm embrace of my mother or father, the calm of my cat curled up on my lap softly purring, the smell of my mother’s cooking, or the sound of my father’s deep laughter that can be heard throughout the house. The peaceful experience of home can be attributed to a variety of different things. A great sense of peace washes over me when I spend time with God, whether it is at church, reading the scripture, or reflecting/spending time in prayer. In addition, I find that being in nature enjoying the fresh, crisp air brings me a great deal of peace as it allows me a time of reflection in God’s beautiful creation. Lastly, spending time with my family after being away for so long also contributes to my peaceful experience of home. Sarah Dressen was right when she said that home is wherever the people who love you are and the moments that you share together. Being so far away from home for the first time has made me realize that and a couple other things as well as a deeper appreciation for it. I have realized how important it is to have a place to call home and to have a support network full of people who love and care for
