Hammerhead Sharks
Hammerhead sharks are very unusual creatures. They are not like other sharks at all, one may think these bizarre sharks are vicious, but really they are not. These creatures are a group of sharks in a family called Sphyrnidae, so named for the unusual and distinctive structure of the head. This research paper is for education and to inform fellow human beings. This paper will also include the following topics, physical features, habitat, food source, reproduction, and another type of hammerhead shark: Wingheads. These sharks are found in temperate and tropical waters worldwide. They can be found far offshore and near shorelines. Hammerheads are often seen in mass summer migrations seeking cooler water. Their lifespan in these waters is usually 20 to 30 years. Also in these waters reproduction occurs for these sharks. Reproduction is also very different for this species. Reproduction occurs only once a year for hammerhead sharks. This activity starts when the male shark violently bites the female shark until she agrees to mate with him. The female usually has a liter of 12 to 15 pups. Hammerhead sharks are obviously very different than other sharks. One specific type of hammerhead shark is a Winghead. Winghead sharks are in the same family as hammerheads, Sphyrnidae. This specific shark has the length of 1.9 m (6.2 ft). They are usually brown to grey and have a very slim body structure. These animals usually have about 6-25 pups. wingheads are considered harmless to humans. This creature usually eats small fish, bony fish, and crustaceans. wingheads are color blind. They are also frequently eaten by great hammerhead
