Halloween and Day of the Dead are thought to be similar because they’re around the same time of year, but when you look closer, the two holidays are very different. The Day of the Dead celebrates dead relatives while Halloween celebrates the end of summer. The first difference is that the Day of the Dead celebrates dead relatives; anyone who celebrates Day of the Dead sets up a shrine for their dead relative (or relatives) so that their spirit can find it’s way back to their family. Halloween celebrates the end of summer, and we can go trick or treating and get candy. Both holidays celebrate something around the same time of year.…

Halloween is like a horror movie, except with drunk teenagers instead of axe murders. It was about two years ago, when we were still living in Germany. It was a fairly peaceful Halloween night and the sun was about to set. My friends and I were walking around the village, what Germans call a town. After about half an hour of us walking around and talking, some acne filled, tall, muscular and older, German teenagers came up to us.…

As I passed through downtown Atlanta, I couldn't help admire the home of the Braves, not just because it was an architectural wonder but because it brought back to mind that very first lesson when Professor Van Huevelen sparked my curiosity when he said we find that there are some things in this world that are repeatable. Repeatable. Repeatable. So a baseball pitcher, if he throws a ball with the same speed and in the same direction, spinning the ball the same, it'll end up going about the same place.…

For my fifth observation of Jaelee, I was observing to see if she can use three-to-four word sentences to express herself. When I got to Jaelee’s classroom, the children were getting ready for snack time. Jaelee came over and gave me a big hug. When I asked her how she was doing, she did not respond and just looked up at me with a smile. She was practicing writing her E’s and told me “I write them all of these” while pointing to the paper.…

Halloween and Day of the Dead have many things in common and I believe that the two holidays are more similar than different. The two holidays are alike in the ways that in both you have to dress up in costumes, they both have the colors orange and black as the main colors in the holiday celebrations, and that they eat sweets and candy during this holiday. The Day of the Dead and Halloween are similar in the fact that in both holidays people dress up in costumes.…

Schools had off because of Martin Luther King Day, so Emily and Melissa had plans to go to Laura’s house; nothing special, just to hang with some friends, play some ping pong, eat, maybe even watch a movie. As Emily and Melissa were about to venture to Miramar, they first had to say their goodbyes to their parents, as they always did before leaving. Their mom sat on the couch, like always, in her fluffy, pink, penguin pajama-pants and white tank-top. “Bye mom going to Laura’s love you”, Emily enthusiastically and quickly proclaimed, almost as if sarcastically and speaking in a runoff statement. Emily gave a quick kiss on the cheek to both her mother and father and raced out the door to Alivia’s…

Children are waiting for this day, they lie in wait month by month and plot what costumes they will wear on this day; they figure out who amongst their friends and family will gather the most candy; this day is called Halloween. Halloween is the one day in the whole year where people and children alike dress up in costumes and go door to door in order to accumulate candy, however, one would not think that Halloween was not always a child-friendly holiday but had a shadowy and foggy past. Halloween then and Halloween now are completely two different people. Halloween in the past was first a day that marked a new season, but soon became a time where terror resides in the hearts of the Celts. Halloween today, has taken a dark turn where sadists and commercialization have sucked the fun and the historical truth out of Halloween.…
