When Marine Sgt. Hal Lutz took part in the liberation of the Philippines city of Zamboanga from the Japanese during World War II, he wasn’t in it for glory. Even after coming home, he said the thanks of others didn’t mean much to him – but that didn’t stop him from beaming a smile when he was recognized during a pinning ceremony honoring veterans at Park Plaza.
Sgt. Lutz, 92, was one of 12 veterans honored Nov. 10 at Park Plaza, an Orange senior living community. The veterans were recognized for their service and received an American flag pin from an active member of the armed forces.
Another notable resident honored last week was 98-year-old Army Nurse Corps and Red Cross veteran Jessie Adams, who spent years in army hospitals working to save the lives of many soldiers. …show more content…
