Directed by Mel Gibson, Hacksaw Ridge is as inspirational as Braveheart and the best war movie since Saving Private Ryan. The film immerses you into the extraordinary life of Desmond Doss [Andrew Garfield], a Virginian Seventh-Day Adventist who decides to enlist in the Army and sail to Okinawa, where he saved 75 wounded men at the bloodiest epicenter of war without carrying a weapon to protect himself from the fierce Japanese Army. He produced a movie that reflected his spirituality and lead to a sequence of inspirational scenes. At the end of the movie you can see that nothing else was more cherished than the word of God brought by Desmond. Roger Ebert, a reputable movie and art critic, wrote a review on the movie entitled The Hurt Locker. This movie dives into the war-ridden life of William James and his squadron during the Iraq war. William James, played by Jeremy Renner, is an Explosive Ordinance & Disposal (EOD) specialist who risks his life to disarm deadly home-made explosives. J.T. Sanborn and Owen Eldridge, played by Anthony Mackie and Brian Geraghty, are James’s eyes and ears over an active bomb site; Sanborn being the squad leader develops high animosity towards Williams; through the duration of the movie, the tension between them is apparent. The director, Kathryn Bigelow, uses this tension to build on how some soldiers act during war time.…

    Standout Moment Analysis

There are many standout moments that I would like to mention, but first I would like to say that I am very impressed with this film, I always have been wondering all these things and I like the fact that we are learning about them in this class. The first standout moment for me was when the man and his family lost their farm. It called my attention because my family and some families from this area had to go through this same situation a few years ago. Second standout moment: the pilots’ salaries from 16,000 to 22,000 yearly! That’s ridiculous, some of them had to ask for food stamps, some of them have a second job, that remind me a time when a met a paramedic working at a warehouse, I asked him why he was working there, and he told me that he was getting pay more there for opening boxes than saving lives and even though he loved to be a paramedic he needed the money.…

Dunkirk Sometimes an event is called miraculous when there is no way anyone could survive under those circumstances that Dunkirk was. Let alone a very large amount of people like at Dunkirk and those seamen in The Finest Hours. Dunkirk was a piece of hell. It will be mentioned that survival was enough at one point in the movie. That fact was agreed with by the British citizens and even the newspapers.…

I chose to review the two Gene Hackman movies, simply because I can’t think of a single Hackman movie that wasn’t well done. I chose Crimson Tide and Bat-21 to review. The US had suspended aide to Russia due to a civil war in Russia.…

I would say Paths of Glory is vastly different than the other war movies I have seen. First off you don’t see much fighting in this movie. Also most war movies are usually long movies for example Apocalypse Now is 2 hours 33min and Saving Private Ryan is 2 hours 49min and Oliver Stone’s Platoon is at least 2 hours compared to Paths of Glory is 1 hour 28min. After I watched Paths of Glory it sort of reminded me of Platoon.…

I chose the film Gettysburg because it provides a great overview of the battle of Gettysburg. Gettysburg is a 1993 American war film. The film tells the story of the battle between the Union and confederate armies during the Civil War. The movie made sure to capture each day of the battle, which lasted three days. I was kind of confused at first because the film had no clear protagonist and antagonist.…

Unethical Business Issues in Shawshank Redemption” I selected the movie “Shawshank Redemption” to do my independent project on because the main character Andy Dufresne goes through multiple character changes that have an immense impact on the movie and it is a great movie. Andy Dufresne is an innocent man that was arrested for his wife’s murder, and he had not committed any crimes until he got in jail which plays in to the movie’s ironic feel. Andy even states in the film, “I had to come to prison to be a criminal.”…

American History X When I started watching the movie I wasn’t sure I would like the topic and what I assumed the movie would be all about. The main character Derek I doubt could have been played by any other actor, He drew me into his character and the whole movie. Having worked in the prison system and then fifteen years in the county jail I could name at least 200 men and even women who I witnessed struggled with the gang mentality of the Arian Brotherhood. Even after their release quite a few made it years without reverting back to the old ways, some re-entered the prison system and others perished from gang violence. I could have easily have been in Derek’s shoes while growing up in the time and place that I did.…
