According to dictionary.com, a professional is defined as one that is “following an occupation as a means of livelihood or for gain” or “of, relating to, or connected with a profession”. In other words, a professional is expected to provide a good or a service with the assumption of receiving something in return. Professionals, no matter the profession, are also expected to be experienced subject matter experts. They earn the trust of their customers/clients through their work ethic and the final product of that good or service. I feel as if Human Resource (HR) Sergeants are among the most valuable professionals that serve in the United States Army. In order to truly become a professional, one must have the appropriate knowledge. According to the student handout, “An Army White Paper, The Profession of Arms” (p.2), “professionals require years of study and practice before they are …show more content…
Trust of peers, subordinates and leaders is the foundation to professional ethic. Trust is earned through quality work and good moral ethics. HR Sergeants provide a service for clients that work alongside them and customers that do not. “The profession exists only through a relationship of trust with the client…” (student handout, p. 6). All Soldiers automatically serve civilians of society by joining the force and sacrificing numerous aspects of their lives. Serving as a HR Sergeant is double the sacrifice. They not only serve the country but they serve their fellow Soldiers; in most cases this is done simultaneously. This builds and strengthens the relationship with the customers and clients. The student handout explains that “to maintain that trust, the profession requires the continuous development of human practitioners who hold high levels of knowledge, adaptability, resilience, and other attributes that make them effective members of the Profession of Arms “(p.
