The most blatant and painful example is slavery. The idea that one race is superior to another just because of cultural and skin-tone differences is abhorrent. Although we as a nation have made much progress since the time when men could be considered property and were sold in market squares like animals, more change needs to happen. We need to stop making immediate assumptions about people based on their appearance, and instead judge them by their character. God is the ultimate example of this. The Bible tells us that, “The LORD does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”- 1 Samuel 16:7. My aunt and uncle have three lovely kids they adopted from Guatemala. I don’t look at them as Guatemalan, though of course their features are different from the rest of the family. My relationship with them is based solely on who the are. My dad is of Middle-Eastern descent, and many people would consider my parents racially mixed.
