Therefore, it was prominent throughout the film that the groups represented seemed threatened by one another as a result of their differences. This was exemplified by the beliefs and actions of the Greek father, Gus Portokalos. Thus, the diverse characters ended up disrespecting or even oppressing one another originally, since they could not look pass the differences. Although it took time, those in the film eventually found a common ground and got comfortable with their differences enough for a Greek woman from a traditional family and a Caucasian man to marry.
