When the city of Kennesaw, Georgia passed the law requiring every home to have a gun present, the crime rate actually dropped more than about 50% over a span of 23 years. They also had an 89% drop in the number of burglaries. Harvard Journal of Law did a study that showed nations that have more guns tend to have less crime (Snyder). While gun ownership went up five times as much, crime rates were cut by 76% in the past seventy years. An award winning expert on crime who teaches as a professor at Florida State University did a study that showed firearms are used 2.5 million times a year for protection. The study also showed that guns are used for this reason 3.5 times more than they’re used for criminal purposes.
