Introduction Objective: In this lab we are going to learn the effect of lime juice on a gummy bear when it is soaked for 24 hours. We will see the effect is has on the mass when it is taken out.
Information is Useful: This lab is an example of how cell transport works. The gummy bear is a cell in this case which is placed in a hypotonic solution that is the lime juice. Hyp0tonic solution is a greater concentration of the solute molecules inside the cell than outside. The gummy bear has an outer layer, cell membrane, and a jelly substance in the middle, cytoplasm, which relates to a cell. Seeing how the gummy bear reacts would be similar to how a cell reacts to another substance.
Benefits: Science has a big role on this, and can learn a lot. …show more content…
The lime juice most increase in the gummy bear’s mass was 3.8 while the water was 5.2 in the increase in mass. My hypothesis was wrong where I thought that the gummy bear would dissolve or decrease because the lime was acid and it would break it down.
Conclusion
In the lab we are testing the effect the lime juice has on the gummy bears. The variable is the gummy bear, and the manipulated variable is the lime juice. My hypothesis was not correct the gummy bear grew and I said that it would shrink or dissolve because of the acid the lime had. The most the mass increased was 3.8 (In table 1 of lime juice data). Maybe if it was placed in the lime juice more time is would possibly increase the mass more like it did with the water. What substance would make the mass go down? In other words break it down. Also what substance can make it stay the
