Queen is about a woman named Rani, who is set to be married. Her fiancé, however, has decided that he no longer wants to marry her, due to conservative views. Although she is ditched, she ultimately decides to go on the honeymoon. This movie is relevant to the course because ultimately – it was her conservative views that caused her to lose her fiancé. The same conservative views that had been instilled in her since birth and oppressed women in the movie Gulaab Gang. Although personally, I don 't believe it is as useful to the course, because it doesn 't touch as much on societal views in India, it still shows how a young Indian girl can change, even after she has grown up around the traditions and pressures. The second film, Jodhaa Akbar, is a historical film. Based in the sixteenth century, the film is based on an arranged marriage to extend his empire. However, Jalaluddin Akbar, the Emperor, realized he has to defend his bride due to societal pressures of a Muslim man and Hindu woman marrying. The other two films mentioned before were more contemporary and modern. However, Jodhaa Akbar plays an important, helpful role in the course by showing where the oppressive traditions began, and how long the traditions and religion had a place in
