We all want a knight in shining armor, however, it turns out the knights in shining armor have a common desire as well: Gwenevere. With the fate of the kingdom in her hands and her heart caught between two men, it is no wonder that the story of this Medieval Queen is one that has captivated us for ages. Once upon a time, Thomas Malory wrote Le Morte d’Arthur; it goes a little something like this. Somewhere around the Middle Ages in Britain rested a land called Camelot. There ruled a King named Arthur who fancied King Leodregran of Scotland’s daughter (Guinevere). It turns out, despite all of her people's hearts being with the King, the Queen’s was not. Instead, her love belonged to his right hand man, Sir Lancelot. Thus began the affair of the century, or at least until Romeo and Juliet. You see, just like any good maiden, Guinevere could not resist a man who comes to her rescue, let alone one who she is constantly around and is an actual knight. There is a reason for the saying, people. So in the Knight of the Cart when good ole’ Guinevere was taken by Maleagant, Son of King Baudemagus of Gorre, and Lancelot comes to her rescue, she can’t help but to fall in love with him (Joe). Finding love should be magical, but sadly, for Guinevere and Lancelot it was tragic, for their love had to remain a secret. Guinevere did not have to continue seeing Lancelot and she did not have to stay married to Arthur if she wanted to be with Lancelot. It was messy and heartbreaking for all the parties involved. We, as romantics, want to root for true love, but that is hard to do in a tale where both men are the white knights and honorable men. So the real question, at least in my mind, is did Guinevere do the right thing or should she have run off into the sunset with the love of her life? I believe she really did love both men so this is a hard question to answer. Perhaps, for the time period she did the only thing she could in order to preserve the integrity of her name; or perhaps she was a coward when it came down to it. We will never know, but the story will forever live on for
