Reflecting upon past experience is key requirement for professionals and academics to ensure better communication, resolve conflicts, and improve future performance. To look back on, group work using Stock-Trak Trading Simulation has allowed participants to gain extreme practical knowledge in trading and investment. This writing is to reflect on my contribution to the simulation activities, critically evaluates our group performance, discuss team work, communication, and possible suggestions to ensure future improvement. It can be argued our team performed well, though organisation skills could have been better.
I was tasked to work in group of six using trading simulation for 12weeks, called ‘’Masters Portfolio Game’’. My team members (Appendix

Thus, group name, aims and objectives were decided. However, some members initially saw the simulation as boring, but I motivated and told them will be exciting in the coming weeks. I personally thought is going to be repetition from undergraduate, but was proven wrong as, my research skills, fundamental and technical analysis has improved drastically, with constantly asking ‘why’. The game enabled putting into practice the concepts I had learned in theory. Although the decision to which shares, amount, sectors, and market to invest wasn’t easy, it can be argued that the diversity of the team and background differences saved time in understanding things. For example, a member with experience in banking and investment aided us in understanding some concepts which minimised research work. Also, others had knowledge on the Canadian, Chinese market, myself with UK market, hence enhanced effective delegation of tasks and success of simulation (Hughes and Jones, 2011). Since the start, there has been open discussion on what to invest and reasons, upon explanation, democratically decision is made, however, some trades were done individually based on a member strong instinct on the shares. But I was calm about it and trusted their instinct after explanation, though in the past would have reacted …show more content…
Regarding the team dynamics, the literature provides proof that our group have shown several positive aspects for producing successful teamwork. Commitment and clear communication have shown to be key in achieving goals. I can personally say teamwork understanding and new set of ideas have been created. One area considered upon reflection is to have allowed my group members more opportunity to express their ideas and opinions. I felt like I suggested ideas quickly, and strong about my opinions. While this can be good thing, I think sometimes I didn’t allow my group members enough opportunity to give their own ideas, because I would state ideas and the group would just run with it because I felt so strong about

This did not end very well, as for some of my stocks, I had no research for. Another thing I learnt through this simulation was that a great track record does not at all guarantee a strong performance in the future. Yes Audi did well the previous year, but that clearly did not happen this year. Although I am not entirely sure how to overcome this, I have learnt what goes up, will come down. This works the other way too, unless the company is bankrupt, the stock can go back…

Mr.Wilkinson Assigned us (his Caledonia Careers Class) a project called the ‘Stock Market’ Project. He gave us each $5,000 (Fake of course) to buy stocks (also fake but we still used the real numbers) and to see how much we could make from spending as much of the fake $5,000 as we could. We made a spreadsheet to keep track of the money we earned for each stock we bought and we had to keep track of it every week. We bought a minimum of four stocks each to keep track of.…

Understanding and forecasting the market correctly was a lot harder than I thought. First, there were so many variances to consider and almost everything was related to the market changes. It was not just about knowing the economy and analyzing data; the market was affected by politics, currency, growth potentials, demographics, national relationship, and even by the weather. Secondly, after actually making trades and building portfolio of my own, I learned that having the insight to pick up the right information to forecast future market is an important factor to be successful in trades.…

My group learned early in the simulation that everyone had an important role and each member was capable of contributing something positive to the group. Our group utilized skills learned from different researchers that were applicable at different junctures during the simulation. We recognized positive self-talk, defensive pessimism, and the effect of mental imagery on performance.…

Throughout the course of group interaction we have been assigned two simulations: the Mount Everest mid-term project and the “Judgment in Crisis” simulation. Each simulation was completed in our specific groups; my group consisted of Megan, Naomi, Tate, Natalie, and Darcy. In each of the simulations we worked well as a team, and also had some downfalls; however, we overcame the problems that arose in our group as well as the simulations in which we had to do. In the beginning of the Mt. Everest Simulation we struggled as a team, due to the fact that we all had different information, and we needed to communicate to exchange information in regards to the simulation.…

Ding! Millions around the world had just seen or felt the effect of the New York Stock Exchange opening bell signaling a new day in the financial markets, and I was blessed with the opportunity to be on this podium ringing the bell alongside my father. When my dad said he could take me to the New York Stock Exchange to ring the opening bell, I was ecstatic. The textbooks which I had read in school did not come close to encompassing all the unique characteristics at the New York Stock Exchange. I was immersed in a sea of red and green numbers everywhere, while specialists quickly tried to get the day ready.…

In the simulation, Kristin managed our team effectively as the leader. As a leader she had to make choices on how reach an outcome, facilitate discussion, and manage disagreements. At first she took a high process control approach, demanding we each share our different information. This was extremely beneficial to overcome the asymmetric distribution of information. We were able to successfully overcome the other challenges in the simulation through sharing of information and trusting our team members.…

As we gained knowledge of the simulation, every subsequent team meeting, we are explaining game mechanics and “suggesting” what our next move should be. By “suggesting,” I imply I would know what to do and Joseph and Katie seemed fine with every suggestion I put forward. We all took the lead in almost every major decision that had to be made, from when to open sales offices and how much to advertise. I designed every advertisement and every brand in the first quarter. Of course, I am entirely happy with the way things turned out, and we all take the responsibility of all this by being a point-man (think of a lineman in football or the soldiers who charged the beach at…

    Gambler's Fallacy Theory

Consider a person betting on coin tosses, and the previous five outcomes were all Heads. Under the gambler’s fallacy, the person would think that the next outcome is most likely to be Tails and would then bet for Tails. The gambler’s fallacy is the false belief in “negative autocorrelation of a non-autocorrelated random sequence of outcomes” (Sundali & Croson, 2006). In simpler words, it is the tendency to perceive an outcome as less likely to occur if it occurred more frequently than normal previously. The most famous case of gambler’s fallacy occurred on August 18th, 1913, when the ball fell in black 26 times in a row during a roulette game in Monte Carlo Casino.…
