Group Observation Paper

It is important for social worker who are working with groups to understand the different stages of group development. As well as the dynamics of groups. Furthermore, social workers must understand the different leadership skills that the groups presents. For this assignment, I observed the group I was assigned to, which was group four. In my observation of the group, I observe the group members interaction and function. I focused on the dynamics, leadership skills and stages of the group development within group four. For this paper, I will be discussing my observation of group four dynamic and leadership skills as well as applying the social exchanged theory to further understand the group.
Group Four
Group Four consisted of myself, C.P., A.R., and S.T... All the members of group four are female. But each have different characteristics. C.P. is Hispanic. She speaks both English and Spanish. She is also very out spoken. In addition, she also took on much of the leadership role towards to end of the group exercise. A.R. is soft spoken. In the social exchange theory, humans are considered to be rational beings. The theory saw that human beings made rational decisions based on the amount of information available to them. With that being said, these decisions are made to receive the greatest reward with the less amount of cost. For example, when the group was deciding what topic to pick for the role play. They use what information they already had available to them. The members knew that C.P. had prior information on narcotics anonymous.
