gross anatomy is "the branch of anatomy that deals with the structure of organs and tissues visible to the naked eye " Our brain is Composed of three main structural division the cerebrum the Brain stream and the cerebellum, the cerebrum' gross anatomy: our cerebrum is the largest component of the Brain with a right and left hemisphere joined together by white matter fibres. This part of the brain is further divided into 4 lobes: frontal , parietal , temporal and occipital lobe. Each lobe of the brain has a different function frontal is the area for memory, problem solving,language,judgment etc... our temporal lobe works along side the frontal lobe involved with language and memory, this lobe also processes hearing and music. The cerebrum divides into two more sections the telencephalon and diencephalon , which is mainly made up of thalamus and hypothalamus and the telencephalon is made up of a cortex, subcortical fibres and the basal nuclei. moving on the second structural division of the brain is the brain stream the oldest part of the brain which is in control of primary instincts heart rate and fight or flight response which structurally can be divided into the midbrain , pons and medulla oblongata . The midbrain acts like a supercomputer for the human body pons aids the medulla in controlling breathing and also acts and a relay station. The medulla also know as the medulla oblongata is the functioning of breathing , blood circulation, vomiting and swallowing . The third and final structural division of the brain is the cerebellum this is the area of the Brain that coordinates muscular responses the cerebellum has 2 hemispheres connected by the midline structure called the vermis.
